UPCOMING SCHEDULE:
April 21, 28 & May 5:
DR. DANIEL SMITH-CHRISTOPHER

TOPIC: The Old Testament: What if the Exile Really Happened?

Of course, most Christians believe that the Exile, which began when Jerusalem was conquered by the Babylonians in 597, actually happened. But what we don’t often consider is how this historical event changes how we read the Bible! If MOST of the Old Testament was prepared in its’ present form AFTER the exile…this has quite startling implications for stories and passages that we usually do not associate with the events of Exile. But what if we do associate these texts with the exile? In these three sessions, Daniel will share how he has come to change his thinking about a number of passages which normally were NOT read “as if the Exile really happened”.

Dr. Daniel and Zsa Zsa Christopher are coming back to Brentwood after a year abroad – teaching at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome (until Christmas), and then teaching in LMU’s Study Abroad program in London (until April). There will be some travel stories!

MAY  12 & 19:

DR. EUNNY LEE

TOPIC  :  Rereading Biblical Poetry

It’s been said, “Poetry cannot be read … it can only be reread … it is a continuation of the holy scriptures” (Jay Parini). This series will invite you into the wondrously deep world of biblical poetry. Together we will explore how biblical poetry builds meaning and how it summons us to linger longer with the words of Scripture and savor the possibilities.
