Mission of Youth/ Young Adult Ministry

We are committed to creating a community where youth and young adults know they are loved by God and by others, and learn how to love themselves. Our goal is to provide them with opportunities to grow in God’s grace, to enable them to develop the spiritual and personal resources necessary for life’s journey and to help guide them into a loving relationship with God, self and others.


Position Summary

The role of the Associate Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries will be to help maintain and grow a comprehensive, relational, family- based ministry with Middle and High School youth (and their Lay Leaders) and the young adults in our community along with the Director of Children and Youth Ministry. The ministries should provide for spiritual nurture, mentoring and integration into the life of BPC in a manner consistent with the values, mission and vision of BPC and the theology of the PCUSA.


Key Responsibilities:

Work with Youth Ministry Director, Youth Committee, and Sponsors to implement a comprehensive ministry to both middle and senior high students and young adults including:

  1. Teach Sunday morning High School Youth Group during the 10:30 service
  2. Work with Director and Committee to plan, organize and lead the ongoing middle and high school special youth programs including summer events, recreational and social activities, and service outreach opportunities
  3. Minister to the needs of students in a setting of friendship and caring
  4. Assist with the planning of young adult gatherings
  5. Partners with Youth Director and Lay Leaders to coordinate, lead, and participate in six major events: Middle School Winter Camp at Forest Home  (February), High School Mexico home building (Holy Week), Youth Sunday (Mother’s Day), Vacation Bible School (Summer), Middle School Camp Out (Summer) and High School River Rafting (Summer) and other events that may arise
  6. Provide education, guidance and mentoring for our Summer Action Leadership Team (S.A.L.T.s) comprising of 4 high school summer interns
  7. Attend weekly meetings with the Youth Director and monthly Youth Committee meetings
  8. Maintain Facebook and Instagram accounts to communicate with our youth  and to reach out to others beyond the walls of our church (must be savvy with social media)


Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Proven relevant Youth Ministry leadership experience.
  2. The ability to forge appropriate, loving relationship with youth and young adults.
  3. Have a proven strength in the recruiting, training and support of volunteer teams, working collaboratively with them to accomplish mutual goals.
  4. The ability to work independently as well as part of a ministry team.
  5. Comfortable and successful in using teamwork to accomplish goals.
  6. Requires a valid driver’s license to transport youth to various activities.
