Core Beliefs and Values: The Heart and Soul of BPC

BPC members and attendees come from a variety of religious backgrounds, including Presbyterian, and do not always agree in every area of theological interpretation. Transcending and holding together this healthy divergence of opinions is the heart and soul of BPC - the core beliefs and values of the congregation.

Our Core Values:

  • Acceptance and Inclusiveness that welcomes all people and calls us to act lovingly and without judgment toward everyone.
  • Partnership among members, staff and pastors, using our gifts to lead and serve the church, caring for all people. We are all ministers.
  • Joy in our faith journey, worship, ministry and church-family life.
  • Mission by sharing our time, talent and resources inside and outside the church.

Our Core Beliefs:

  • Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and the Head of our church. Above all else, BPC is a Christ-centered community of faith.
  • God's saving grace extends to all. Though we all fall short, we gratefully and humbly receive God's grace and strive to follow Christ's teachings.
  • God speaks to us through Scripture. The Bible is regarded as the divinely inspired Word of God expressed by humankind, and the Scriptures as the "roadmap for life" that we use to guide us as we seek to understand God and how to live our lives.
  • God wants a personal relationship with each of us, based on trust in God. We are God's divine creation, created in God's image, and we are God's beloved. We trust that our heavenly Creator yearns for a close and loving relationship with each of us. We yearn for that relationship, too, and strive to make it the first priority in our lives.
  • We are all called to be Christ's disciples. As we come to know God through Christ more fully, we understand that we are called to model our lives after Christ. This means actively living out our faith as we seek to extend God's love to the world.
