Becoming
a Member
So you've visited
Brentwood Presbyterian Church. You've liked what you've seen, the
people you've met, and the ideas you've heard. Now what?
You can attend
a series of New Member Discovery Classes. These classes are
designed to provide you with information about the church and answer
any questions you may have. New Member Discovery Classes are offered
three times a year and are led by our pastors, staff and ministry
leaders.
- What we
believe as Presbyterians
- The core
values and mission of BPC
- The church's
structure and governance
- How God has
gifted you for service
- Ways in which
to nurture your spiritual growth
After completing
the class, if you wish to become a member, you will have the opportunity
to meet with church elders to exchange questions and information,
and, finally, you will be welcomed and accepted into membership
by the congregation during one of the Sunday Worship services.
We encourage
members to follow a formula for involvement that we call "Worship
+ 2": Come to Sunday worship, plus enjoy one nurturing activity
(such as attending a School of Christian Learning class or joining
a small group) plus participate in one service activity (such as
teaching Sunday School or ushering on Sundays).
As a new
member, you will be helped to identify your spiritual gifts,
so that you can develop your own "personal ministry,"
one that fits your unique blend of passions, gifts and personal
style. Spiritual Gifts Discovery classes are held throughout the
year, and this gift-based approach to service supports one of our
core values - that we are all ministers.
